PSYCHOTHERAPY
βTo live in this world you must be able to do three things
to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go.β
Mary Oliver.
My Background
Aside from being a psychotherapist I am trained as a yoga teacher, reiki practitioner, masseuse and bodyworker.
Integral to my work is the belief that we are whole beings, not simply a body and a mind. As such I wholeheartedly believe that any therapy must give attention to every part of your experience. In shedding light on the unique way you are in the world, a greater acceptance and joy to living can be attained.
If you are interested in incorporating movement or Reiki into our work together please do ask, as I am very happy to tailor our work together to suit your needs.
My Approach
As an Existential Psychotherapist I work in a relational, phenomenological and embodied way.
Okay, so what does that actually mean for you?
Rather than looking at ways that your past defines you we will explore together where you are now and how you find yourself, what limitations are present and what stories you are holding. In delving deeper into both your well rehearsed, and untold, narratives in the presence of another, greater awareness and choice can often present itself. Most of all I hope to provide a space and relationship where you can come to know yourself in the way that brings with it acceptance of how you are now and freedom to continuously change.
Working in a relational way I offer a space to explore your way of being with others. I will attempt to be dependably real, however, I will inevitably make mistakes. I will encourage you to express ways I dissappoint or let you down so that we can explore what is important to you together.
Finally, what is embodiment all about? I work in a holistic way; we are living, animated bodies, not simply a mind with a body. So much of our pain is held implicitly within the body. I will bring curiosity to your entire experience; your imagination, your dreams, your body sensations and expressions as well as your emotions and cognition. In making connections that bring together your entire way of experiencing therapy becomes more about better feeling, instead of simply feeling better.
In addition to private practice I have a breadth of clinical experience working in community wide charitable organisations. These include charitable mental health counselling services, and uk wide grief counselling services. I am passionate about ensuring that psychotherapy is accessible to all parts of our society and that neither background nor financial capacity is a barrier to access.
